The Sweet Nostalgia of Jelly Babies

Ruby Willingham

Did you know that Jelly Babies were first sold in the UK in 1864 but got their name in 1918 to celebrate the end of World War One, they were sweet symbols of calm after the chaos. They are often known as ‘Peace Babies’ symbolising hope and new beginnings. They’re soft, fruit flavoured sweets shaped like babies and each one has a name and flavour. They have been a British favourite for over 100 years.

Jelly Babies all have unique names and characters, let me introduce them to you. Jelly Babies consists of Bubbles - the yellow one, Baby Bonny – the red one, Boofuls – the green one, Bigheart – the dark purple one and Bumper – the orange one.

At Giant Bradley’s Sweet Shop, we love them and we’re sure you will too. Visit us to stock up on Jelly Babies and all your favourite retro sweets.
